POLK COUNTY CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION OPENS OFFICE

Bartow, Florida, May 2, 2001 – Dan Costello, Chairman of the Polk County Charter Review Commission announced today that the Charter Commission office has been established at 2155 Marshall Edwards Drive, in Bartow across the street from the Rohr Nursing Home.

The Charter Review Commission was created by Article 8.4 of the Polk County Charter, approved by the voters of Polk County on November 1998 and amended by the voters on November 7, 2000.  The Commission has 13 members, and is charged with making recommendations for amendments or revisions to the Charter for consideration by the voters in a referendum to be scheduled by the Board of County Commissioners in 2002.

The Charter Review Commission can be reached by telephone at 863-519-8513, by fax at 863-534-5595, or by mail at Post Office Box 1899, Bartow, Florida  33831.  The Commission expects to have a web site in operation in the near future. 

The Commission meets at 6:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month on the third floor of the Citrus and Chemical Bank building on Broadway in Bartow, Florida.  All meetings are opened to the public.
